DVD-Review: Mon Oncle

The second of the two fall 2012 Tati rereleases from the British Film Institute is Mon Oncle, the second appearance of Monsier Hulot and surely the best and most famous movie by the french director. The BFI has made an even bigger effort for Mon Oncle than for Jour de Fête by fully restoring the new transfer, which look enormously better than all previous versions. Also included is the english-language version, which has a slightly shorter runtime, but partially consists of completely different takes and is a whole different incarnation of the movie. The new dual format edition from BFI contains both versions on DVD and Blu-Ray, but as usual I have only reviewed the DVD in today’s article.
